JUBA, South Sudan

  • Tor Deng Mawien has been appointed chairman of the board of directors of the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA). Authority staff and senior government officials received him on 4 November 2026.
  • Presidential Adviser on Governance Joseph Ngere Paciko said the airport sector needs to be transformed to improve aviation services and infrastructure.
  • Caretaker Minister of Cabinet Affairs Bol Wek Agoth urged the SSCAA to keep up its work on aviation services, aircraft safety, and operational vigilance.
  • Director General Mosety Kat Monyjok pledged effective leadership and said South Sudan aims to take full control of the Juba FIR early next year.
  • Monyjok later convened the authority's senior management for a review of its strategic roadmap, following recent talks with neighbouring civil aviation authorities and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
  • The airspace handover topped the agenda. He briefed the team on the transition plan and the roadmap toward South Sudan managing its own skies in line with international standards.
  • The authority is also drawing up financial and human resources policy manuals, along with procurement procedures, which Monyjok said would strengthen accountability and transparency.
  • On airports, the meeting reviewed continued upgrades at Juba International Airport (JUB), the start of façade works at Wau Airport (WUU), and an assessment of a possible future international hub at Tali, Terekeka County (Central Equatoria State).
  • In November last year, the South Sudanese Ministry of Transport signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chinese Roads and Bridges Corporation to conduct feasibility studies for Tali International Airport and other transport facilities.
