ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates

- Sanad, the engine maintenance and asset management company wholly owned by the UAE's Mubadala Investment Company, has set out four projects at Tahnoun International Airport (AAN/OMAL) in Al Ain that together cover engine maintenance, component repair, and engine testing.
- The 93,600 square meter (sqm) expansion is the largest development in Sanad's history and will support a workforce of more than 1,600.
- Once complete, the Al Ain site will have capacity to maintain up to 410 engines, run up to 600 engine tests, and repair up to 65,000 engine parts a year.
- It will support five engine platforms: the Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan (GTF), GE Aerospace GEnx, CFM International LEAP, Rolls-Royce Trent 700, and International Aero Engines (IAE) V2500.
- The anchor project is the 64,000 sqm GTF Engine Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Center, the first dedicated Pratt & Whitney GTF MRO center of its kind in the South Asia, Middle East and Africa (SAMEA) region. Construction started in April 2026, operations are due to begin in 2028, and it will create 1,000 direct jobs with a 50% Emiratization target.
- A 9,000 sqm Twin Engine Test Cell Complex with two 12m × 12m test cells will test narrowbody and widebody engines. It will be Al Ain's first civil engine test cell complex and the largest civil engine test facility in the UAE.
- A 17,600 sqm Repair Center of Excellence will bring advanced component repair for all five engine platforms under one roof when it opens in 2030.
- The 4,900+ sqm GEnx Engine MRO Center has been running in Al Ain since June 2026, with capacity for up to 50 engine shop visits a year. Sanad has handled more than 250 GEnx engine inductions for customers including Etihad Airways and Qantas.
- The global MRO market was valued at USD 136 billion in 2025 and is projected to approach USD 193 billion by 2030.
- Sanad aims to become one of the world's top five independent engine MRO providers by 2028.
- "Our strategy is to scale ahead of demand, deepen our technical capabilities and expand the solutions we provide across the lifecycle of an engine," said Mansoor Janahi, Managing Director and Group CEO of Sanad.
- This year Sanad also launched the first cohort of its apprenticeship program for UAE nationals, with 25 apprentices.
