ESSAOUIRA, Morocco

- Morocco's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) plans to issue the final certificate for Essaouira-Mogador Airport, a port city on the Atlantic coast in western Morocco, in 2027.
- Essaouira-Mogador currently holds no final certificate; inclusion in the 2027 plan sets a target subject to regulatory compliance.
- The airport currently sees scheduled services to Casablanca via Royal Air Maroc and from Ryanair internationally.
- Tetouan, Al Hoceima, and Dakhla airports are also scheduled for final certification in the same year. All three hold temporary approvals only.
- Tangier Ibn Battouta received final certification in 2025 and the first half of 2026.
- Marrakech Menara and Agadir Al Massira had their certificates renewed during the same period.
- The move forms part of a broader DGCA programme to complete airport certifications and strengthen inspections.
- The 2027 programme includes digitisation of air transport licensing procedures and development of a dedicated digital application.
- DGCA will continue monitoring partnership agreements with Royal Air Maroc for domestic route revival.
- Inspector training will cover aircraft airworthiness, maintenance checks and flight simulator certification.
- The programme also covers ongoing safety and security inspections plus preparation of the second National Air Transport Facilitation Programme.
- Cybersecurity and security of air traffic service providers form additional priorities.
