RABAT, Morocco

- Airbus plans to expand its Casablanca, Morocco facilities by 30 percent through addition of about 23,000 square metres of coverage.
- About 6,900 square metres of the expansion will house a third factory specialised in design, manufacturing and assembly.
- Formal announcement of the expansion is expected in the coming months.
- Airbus currently operates two plants in Morocco, employs over 1,300 staff and works with 100 local suppliers.
- Airbus activities represent about 60 percent of Morocco aviation manufacturing sector output.
- Airbus plans to launch a helicopter maintenance, repair and overhaul unit in the coming months.
- The MRO unit will serve the local market and West Africa.
- Morocco aviation sector exports reached MAD 30 billion Moroccan dirhams (USD 3.05 billion) in the first eight months of the year, up 21.5 percent year-on-year.
- Airbus signed an agreement with Lockheed Martin and Safran to create the African Center of Excellence for Manufacturing during the Marrakech air show.
