LIBYA: Sebha Airport sees scheduled international flights again

  • Sebha International Airport (IATA: SEB), which serves the city of Sabha, capital of the Sabha District in southern Libya, has seen the return of scheduled international passenger flights following its reopening in May post upgrade works.

  • Local carrier Buraq Air started 2x weekly flights from Sabha to Alexandria, Egypt on Sunday, October 4. Prior to this, Buraq had offered scheduled flights to Tripoli Mitiga and Benghazi.
  • Fellow Libyan carrier Berniq Airways also launched hajj charters from Sebha to Jeddah on the same day.
  • The Libyan Office for Vital Facilities Operations at the National Development Agency cooperated on both launches.
  • Representatives from Buraq, Berniq Ground & Aviation Services, the airport director and the mayor of Sabha attended the ceremony.
  • Officials stated the launches aim to boost airport activity and expand destinations.
  • The flights seek to strengthen Sabha International Airport as a regional air hub for southern Libya. Sabha is also used by the Libyan government as a key airport for the deportation of illegal aliens.
