LIBYA: Employees claim Afriqiyah set to sell off mothballed A300-600F
Afriqiyah Airways employees' movement issued a statement warning against any sale or disposal of the A300 freighter grounded in Turkish maintenance hangars for six years.
- The movement blamed the Libyan state-owned airline board, in place for nearly five years, for asset mismanagement and demanded immediate intervention by the Attorney General and oversight bodies to halt all disposal actions on the A300 plus other aircraft, engines and spares.
- The movement also held the Ministry of Transport and the holding company board responsible for failing to correct the deterioration.
- Recent documents revealed a draft sale agreement for (MSN 788 ¦ 5A-ONS), a 28 year-old A300-600(F) that has been stored at Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen airport since 2020, declared unserviceable after years on the ground.
- Audit Bureau reports had already recorded the prolonged grounding despite maintenance outlays exceeding USD 362,000 and EUR 3.85 million (USD 4.41 million).
- The movement questioned the rationale of prior expenditure if the aircraft is now to be sold as scrap.
- Employees called for a full transparent review of all procedures and amounts spent before any final disposal decision.
