LIBYA: Afriqiyah Airways leasing its A320 engines to Libyan Wings: report
TRIPOLI, Libya
- Sources have told Sada Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper that state-owned Afriqiyah Airways plans to lease two CFM56-5Bs to privately-owned rival Libyan Wings despite earlier claims the arrival of the refurbished engines would be used to return its grounded A320s to service.
- All five of Afriqiyah's A320-200s are grounded and require engines.
- Libyan Ministry of Transport and holding company LAAHCO bear responsibility for the carrier's situation, according to the sources.
- Attorney General, Audit Bureau and Administrative Control Authority are urged to intervene and block any final lease until Afriqiyah's fleet needs are verified and prior claims settled.
- Libyan Wings operates three A319-100s all of which are in service.
