LEBANON: CAA Boss Denies Pressure To Exempt Ibex Air Charter From Debt Repayments

BEIRUT, Lebanon

• Lebanese Civil Aviation Authority Director General, Captain Mohammed Aziz, has denied Al-Akhbar reports of any external pressure to exempt Ibex Air Charter from required debt payments.
• Beirut-based newspaper Al-Akhbar had claimed that Prime Minister Nawaf Salam intervened with the CAA on behalf of Ibex Air Charter owner Ahmed Al-Haj to waive dues, leaving USD147,000 outstanding for over two years with only USD 40000 paid recently by cheque.
• Ibex Air Charter is licensed as a commercial charter airline specialising in business jets. It recently ferried a first E175 - (MSN 17000328 ¦ P4-EMB) to Beirut as part of plans to launch regional scheduled services under the brand Mada Airways using the renovated aerodrome in Qlayaat, northern Lebanon, as a base.
