KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait

  • Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah has confirmed that Kuwait International Airport (KWI/OKKK) T1 terminal will resume operations in November.
  • The resumption precedes Kuwait hosting the Saudi Football Super Cup.
  • Al-Yousef spoke to the press after attending the signing ceremony for the government partner sponsorship agreement for the Saudi Super Cup at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium.
  • Kuwait International Airport T1 was closed in June after an early morning Iranian attack caused severe damage to the Terminal 1 building itself and left a number of people injured.
  • T1 had handled all non-Kuwaiti carriers prior to the attack. Since then, while it has been undergoing repairs, Kuwait International Airport has handled all commercial passenger traffic through Terminal 4 (T4) and Terminal 5 (T5). T4 serves as the exclusive hub for the national carrier, Kuwait Airways, but also handles foreign carriers like Emirates and Qatar Airways. Meanwhile, T5 is a dedicated terminal operated by Kuwait’s budget airline, Jazeera Airways, which uses the space to manage its low-cost regional flights alongside a select few displaced international low-cost carriers.
  • Terminal 2 (T2) is planned to open later this year as Kuwait Airways' new state-of-the-art mega-terminal.
