CAIRO, Egypt

- Civil Aviation Minister Sameh El-Hefny says the sector generated USD 4.8 billion in the 2025/2026 financial year.
- Current annual airport capacity stands at about 73 million passengers. The ministry targets more than 122 million passengers per year by 2030.
- More than USD 400 million has been spent on airspace modernisation, including radar updates, satellite networks, communications systems and airway restructuring.
- The ministry intends to offer 11 airports (excluding Cairo International) to the private sector for management, operation and development. Hurghada International is the pilot project.
- Terminal 4 at Cairo International Airport is estimated to cost USD 4.2 billion. The project aims to raise the airport’s capacity to 70 million passengers in the first phase and 110 million after 2041\. Cairo currently handles more than 31 million passengers against a design capacity of 28 million.
- El-Hefny added that the ministry is studying the establishment of an air cargo and logistics city at Cairo Airport, in addition to developing the airports of Al-Alamein, Sphinx and the new capital, which will add about 12 million passengers annually to the capacity of Egyptian airports.
- Private aviation now accounts for about 30 percent of inbound tourist arrivals by air, excluding EgyptAir traffic.
- El-Hefny said the measures are intended to support tourism inflows, raise foreign-currency earnings and expand air-transport infrastructure through 2030.
